Introduction
Tactus apps are stand-alone apps that run on your device.
They are not online services, do not use accounts, and do not send information to Tactus.
Because of this, many standard security questions that are designed for cloud-based, account-driven software, don’t really apply.
What is the purpose of the Tactus apps?
The Tactus Therapy apps are a suite of digital tools designed to support speech-language pathologists in delivering therapy and home exercise programs to adults recovering from stroke, brain injury, and related conditions. They are best understood as interactive digital worksheets: structured exercises that a clinician selects, configures, and assigns based on the individual needs of each patient.
The apps cover a range of language and communication skills affected by aphasia, including word finding, naming, reading, writing, listening comprehension, and conversation. Activities involve tasks such as identifying pictured objects, categorizing words, and responding to discussion questions. Several apps also address related areas such as speech motor planning (apraxia), number skills, visual attention, and swallowing management. The exercises are grounded in established, research-based therapy approaches including cueing hierarchies, semantic feature analysis, verb network strengthening, and speech entrainment.
The apps are not diagnostic tools and do not generate clinical assessments or recommendations. They track exercise completion accuracy during a session, which clinicians can use to monitor progress. All clinical decisions, including which activities to use, how to configure them, and how to interpret results, remain with the treating clinician. Any data from the session is deleted after the session.
These apps are entirely non-invasive and do not interact with any medical device, collect health data, or connect to external systems. They address the communication and language consequences of a medical event rather than the underlying health condition itself. While they are commonly used in rehabilitation settings, they are also used in home exercise programs with or without the guidance of a speech-language pathologist.
How Tactus apps work
The apps are downloaded once from the Apple App Store or Google Play
There are no logins or user accounts
An internet connection is not required after installation
The app continues to work even if the device is offline
There is no central system or server operated by Tactus that the apps connect to.
What information the apps use
By default, the apps don't use any of your information. Some apps include optional features that allow personalization, such as:
Entering an email address to send a report
Adding custom words, phrases, phone numbers, or pictures
Recording speech for feedback
Creating reports showing progress
None of this is required to use the apps.
Where that information goes
All optional personal or custom information:
stays on the device
is not sent to Tactus
is not stored by Tactus
If you choose to email, export, print, or save a report after a session, that information goes only where you send it. Once you end a session, the report for that session is lost as no data from the session is stored anywhere.
Tactus does not receive or keep copies of:
email addresses
recordings
reports
custom content
Payment information and App Store accounts
Apps are purchased through Apple or Google.
Apple and Google manage payment and app store accounts
Their privacy policies apply to those transactions
Tactus does not see payment details or app store account information
We don't even know you bought the app!
